Order of operations
- Cancel on the official path. Keep the confirmation.
- Save the evidence below before you close the tab.
- Send the refund demand. Give them a date.
- If they ignore you or bill again, dispute the charge with the card issuer or PayPal.
- If they still refuse, file with a regulator. That is pressure, not a courtroom.
Three screenshots that matter
- The active subscription page before you cancel (price, renewal date, plan name).
- The final Cancellation confirmed screen with date and time visible.
- The confirmation email, saved as a file.
Dispute windows (typical, not a promise)
- Visa / Mastercard / Amex / Discover: often about 120 days from the charge (or from when the service should have stopped).
- US billing-error letter: generally 60 days from the statement that first showed the error.
- PayPal: Resolution Center — often 180 days. Escalate the case within 20 days or it can auto-close.
How to file the card dispute
- Bank or card app → the charge → Dispute.
- Pick cancelled / recurring if that reason exists.
- Attach the screenshots and the demand email.
- Three sentences: what you bought, when you cancelled, that they billed after that date.
- Ask for a written case number.
Stop the next one
- US: Privacy.com merchant-locked cards.
- UK / EEA / Revolut markets: Revolut virtual / disposable card.
- Wise virtual cards where offered.
- Everywhere: bank app virtual card, or replace the plastic.
Escalate outside the company
- US: FTC ReportFraud, CFPB.
- UK: Citizens Advice, Financial Ombudsman for the bank side.
- EU / EEA: ECC-Net / European consumer redress. The old ODR form closed; this is the live path.
- Thailand: OCPB.
